About Rajah Hospital
Four decades of charitable care in Guruvayoor, Thrissur district, Kerala.
Rajah Hospital began in December 1982 as a single outpatient clinic and pharmacy in Muthuvattoor, Guruvayoor, staffed by one doctor and two nurses. It was founded by the Rajah Charitable Medical Trust (RCMT) with a simple, specific purpose: to bring free and subsidized medical care to a community that otherwise had to travel far for it.
Over four decades, that single clinic has grown into a 150-bed multi-speciality hospital covering 19 departments, from General Medicine and Cardiology to Neurosurgery and Gastroenterology, alongside round-the-clock casualty and emergency care. Growth has never come at the expense of the founding mission — RCMT continues to run Rajah Hospital as a charitable trust, not a for-profit institution, with subsidized treatment available to patients who cannot otherwise afford it.
Today, Rajah Hospital also supports RCMT’s four Ayurveda wellness centers and a nursing school that trains the next generation of healthcare workers for Thrissur district and beyond — extending the same founding commitment to care that is both accessible and genuinely comprehensive.
